On July 18, 2025, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced sweeping fee changes as required by the recently enacted H.R. 1 Reconciliation Act (referred to publicly as the โ€œOne Big Beautiful Billโ€). These new fees apply to many commonly used immigration forms and are effective for filings postmarked on or after July 22, 2025.

All filings postmarked on or after August 21, 2025 without the correct H.R. 1 fees will be rejected.

๐Ÿ’ต Summary of New Filing Fees

According to USCIS and the Federal Register:

๐Ÿ“ Asylum Applications

  • Form I-589 (Application for Asylum and Withholding of Removal):
    ๐Ÿ”น $100 filing fee
    ๐Ÿ”น $100 Annual Asylum Fee (AAF) every calendar year the application is pending
    ๐Ÿ”น USCIS will notify applicants when the AAF is due

๐Ÿ’ผ Employment Authorization (Form I-765)

  • Applies to categories: (a)(4), (a)(12), (c)(8), (c)(11), (c)(19), and (c)(34)

    • Initial EAD Application: $550

    • Renewal or Extension: $275

    • Exception: $275 if EAD follows approval of a new period of parole via Form I-131

  • Form I-360 as SIJ: $250 filing fee

๐ŸŒŽ Temporary Protected Status (TPS)

  • Form I-821 (Application for TPS): Fee increased from $50 to $500

  • For Parolees: Valid for one year or duration of parole, whichever is shorter

  • For TPS Applicants: Valid for one year or duration of TPS status, whichever is shorter

  • Fees under H.R. 1 are additive, not replacements for current fees under the USCIS Fee Rule.

  • Each H.R. 1 fee must be submitted separately.

  • Fee Waivers (Form I-912) are allowed for original fees under 8 CFR 106.3(a), but H.R. 1 fees cannot be waived.

  • Additional H.R. 1-related fee rules will be published for other forms, including:

    • Form I-131 (Travel Document / Parole)

    • Form I-102 (Arrival/Departure Document Replacement)

Depending on whether you are inside or outside the United States, you may pay:

  • By credit or debit card (Form G-1450)

  • By personal or business check

  • By money order or cashierโ€™s check

If your payment is returned, declined, or unfunded:

  • USCIS may revoke or deny your request.

  • You may receive a Notice of Intent to Revoke.

  • Filing and biometric service fees are nonrefundable.
